Chimos all round - Happy days

Created by bogle 2 12 years ago
Ron and I go back to Tidworth days 1982-84. We were in 52 Fd Sqn, he as Pronto and me as the Clerk Of Works (Electrical). We enjoyed each other’s company as we did not always see eye to eye with the management. We spent time in RAF Bruggen, Canada and the Falklands. In Bruggen there was was insufficient accommodation for us on the base so we were put in a local guesthouse. I recall the time at the beginning of Lent when the local women are allowed to let their hair down (Rosenmontag (Monday of Roses) which is the 42nd day before Easter. The bar was closed and we were invited to attend the carnival. Somehow I managed to end up carrying a plastic chicken during the celebrations. Ron then gave me the nickname of “Plastic Chicken”. I still have the chicken 30 years on! We sent the usual card and letter at Christmas and had an occasional chat on the phone. Ron’s card was usually quite late (or very early) and to our old address. This year it was to the right place and early. I have taken partial retirement and relax in sunny West Dorset for four days a week. I teach electrical installation at Bridgwater College for three days a week and, unfortunately, I shall be unable to attend the funeral but will be thinking of you all. Please pass on my regards to anyone who may have served with us. Chuck Willmott
